History: Båstad Tennis Stadium was founded by Ludwig Nobel, nephew of Alfred Nobel, who built a tennis court in 1907 on the very spot where today’s Centre Court stands. Between 2001 and 2007, the Tennis Stadium and Hotel Skansen underwent an extensive renovation, and the venue is now considered one of the most beautiful tennis facilities in Europe.
Tournaments: In 1925, Båstad hosted the Swedish Tennis Championships. King Gustav V (“Mr G”) both visited and played tennis in Båstad for many years, and the Swedish Open has been held here since 1948. The ATP tournament is one of the oldest on the Tour.
The Arena: Båstad Tennis Stadium is the largest outdoor tennis arena in the Nordics, with seating for 4,300 spectators on Centre Court and an additional 1,500 on Court 1. The arena is integrated with a first-class hotel featuring 172 rooms, a conference facility for up to 500 guests, an award-winning restaurant, a cold bathhouse, and a spa with a rooftop pool and bar.
