Spanish-Turkish Duo Reaches Doubles Final

Burillo & Cengiz

The women’s doubles semifinals began today on Court 1, with the first match pitting the Spanish-Turkish pair Irene Burillo and Berfu Cengiz against the Taiwanese sisters Cho I-Hsuan and Cho Yi-Ting. Burillo and Cengiz immediately showed why they’ve made it this far in the tournament, winning comfortably in straight sets, 6–1, 6–2.

Despite the dominant scoreline, both teams struggled somewhat with their serves. The Taiwanese duo committed six double faults, while Burillo and Cengiz had four. Although the serving issues could have changed the dynamics of the match, the Spanish-Turkish team’s overall consistency proved decisive.

On their way to the final, Burillo and Cengiz have eliminated opponents from Japan and Ukraine. In the final, they will face the winners of the match between Americans Aney/Failla and the Czech team Maleckova/Skoch—the latter defeated the Swedish pair Björk/Johansson in yesterday’s quarterfinal.
