French Rising Star Knocked Out in Second Round of WTA Tournament in Båstad

Wednesday’s action on Center Court in Båstad saw a clash between French talent Lois Boisson and the in-form Latvian Darja Semenistaja in the second round of the WTA tournament. Boisson, who made a major impression earlier this year by reaching the semifinals at Roland Garros, had previously defeated fellow Frenchwoman Chloé Paquet in straight sets.

However, Boisson struggled to find her rhythm against Semenistaja. Her serve faltered throughout the match, and with eight double faults, she lost key points at crucial moments. The Latvian opponent, showing a blend of consistency and aggressive baseline play, capitalized on Boisson’s weaknesses and secured a comfortable victory, 6–3, 6–4.

Semenistaja’s win means yet another pre-tournament favorite exits early. Two former Båstad champions have already been eliminated: Italy’s Martina Trevisan and Germany’s Mona Barthel. The latter fell to a Croatian opponent in a tight three-set battle, 6–4, 4–6, 7–6, with the final set decided in a tense tiebreak. The Croatian, seeded sixth in the tournament, delivered a strong and composed performance.

Mona Barthel has a long-standing history in Båstad; she won the tournament in 2014 and reached the final again the following year, where she lost to Sweden’s former clay queen Johanna Larsson.
