World number one Jannik Sinner announces that he cannot play the Nordea Open. After losing the quarter-finals at Wimbledon on Tuesday, Jannik spoke of difficulties during the subsequent press conference.
– I spoke with Jannik and the team today in the afternoon. The news is of course sad for him and for all tennis fans. Jannik has had 6 busy and exhausting months so we have to respect that he has been ordered to rest by his doctor and should not be exposed to any exertion in the near future. We wish Jannik a speedy recovery so that we can see him win more titles soon, says tournament director Christer Hult.
– I’m sad to have to withdraw from Bastad next week due to fatigue. Never an easy decision as I would love to play, but following the advice from my team and doctors they have advised it’s best to take some time to rest and recover. I hope I’ll play Båstad in the future. I’ve heard it is a great tournament, writes Jannik Sinner in his announcement about his withdrawal from the tournament.
