Young Argentine outs Nagal

Day 4 at Nordea Open in Båstad opened with a first time contest between Indian Sumit Nagal, the world number 68, and Argentine Mariano Navone, world number 36. Nagal is seeking his 2nd ATP Tour quarter final and aims to be the 1st Indian quarterfinalist in this tournament’s history. Making his Båstad debut and nicknamed “La Navoneta”, Navone is top 4 seed at an ATP Tour event for the first time and hoping to build up further on that.

The match started under windy and chilly conditions. Navone broke first and won the set 6-4 after a determined fight back from Nagal.

Third game of second set was the longest and felt like the most crucial of the match. Navone got the much needed break and quickly led 2-1. It didn’t take long for him to hold and serve out the match to win 6-4 6-2.

In the post match speech, Navone said, “I was a little bit nervous. This place is so so nice that i hope to well in my next matches.”

The 23-year old Argentine Navone will next play the winner of the afternoon match between British No. 2 Cameron Norrie and former world number 1, Rafael Nadal.
