Favorite Casper Ruud has shown good form in training in Båstad and on Thursday he played his first match in the tournament against Alexander Shevchenko.
After starting the match with a double fault, Ruud progressed to a reassuring 3-0 lead and then kept the pace high and was able to settle with a comfortable set win 6-2.
Shevchenko got off to a better start in the second set and raced to a 2-0 lead before Casper woke up to take 3 straight games and then broke Shevcehnko’s serve to win 6-2 6-4.
Ruud will now face Austrias Sebastian Ofner in the quarter-finals on Friday.
