Elisabetta Cocciaretto

It was a comfortable afternoon in Båstad for Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who cruised into the quarterfinals of the Nordea Open, after defeating Justina Mikulskyte in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. The Italian, currently ranked No. 116 in the world and a former No. 29, arrived at the tournament with high expectations, having already claimed three WTA 125 titles.

The 24-year-old from Ancona is considered one of the most consistent Italian players on clay, and she proved it once again today, leaving little room for her opponent from Lithuania, who is ranked No. 209. Although she started off a bit nervously with some serving issues, Cocciaretto quickly found her rhythm and took control of the first set, especially after a medical timeout from Mikulskyte, who had initially started strong, putting pressure on the Italian’s serve. With four consecutive games won, Cocciaretto closed out the opening set in dominant fashion, 6-1.

She didn’t let up in the second set, breaking serve early and maintaining her momentum throughout the match. Her dominance was reflected in her first-serve points won—74% (28/38), compared to just 47% (14/30) for Mikulskyte. Seeded No. 8 in the draw, Cocciaretto was also untouchable on serve, saving all eight break points she faced (100%), while Mikulskyte saved only half (4/8). To seal the second set 6-2, Cocciaretto had to fend off a triple break point at 5-2, showcasing her composure and resilience under pressure.

In the quarterfinals of the Nordea Open, Cocciaretto will face American No. 155 Louisa Chirico, who staged a tough comeback against Jana Fett. After dropping the first set, Chirico fought back to win 2-1.
