Italian titleholder Martina Trevisan battled her way into the second round of the WTA tournament in Båstad after a thrilling opening match. In a clash full of momentum shifts against Australian Astra Sharma, the 31-year-old Italian showcased both mental resilience and tactical experience, rallying from what seemed like a hopeless position to win in three sets: 2–6, 7–6(5), 6–3.
Trevisan struggled to find her rhythm in the opening set and had clear difficulties countering Sharma’s aggressive play, leading to a decisive 2–6 loss. The second set also looked bleak as she quickly fell behind 1–4, but that’s when the match took a turning point.
Backed by her past success on the Båstad clay, Trevisan slowly regained her composure and confidence. She methodically worked her way back into the set, forced a tiebreak, and held her nerve under pressure to win it 7–6(5).
In the deciding set, Trevisan took full control from the outset and sealed the match with a solid 6–3. She also recorded six aces, a key statistic that helped tip the balance in a closely contested encounter.
In the second round, Trevisan will face the winner of the match between Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa and fourth-seeded Nuria Párrizas Díaz—the Spaniard who lifted the Båstad trophy in 2021.
