The last semifinal of this year’s WTA tournament in Båstad saw Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto take on Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic — two players who have impressed throughout the week.
Cocciaretto, ranked No. 116 in the world and a three-time WTA 125 champion, faced Ruzic, ranked No. 91, who came into the event with strong grass-court form from recent WTA 250 and 125 tournaments.
The match started evenly, but Cocciaretto gained the upper hand and sealed the win in straight sets, 6–3, 6–4. A brief light rain during the second set had little impact on the level of play.
She now advances to face Katarzyna Kawa in the final — a first-time finalist showdown that guarantees a new name on the Nordea Open trophy. Last year’s champion, Martina Trevisan, was knocked out in the second round this year – ironically, by the in-form Kawa.
Tomorrow, we’ll find out who will write their name in the history books and lift the trophy high above the Båstad clay.
