The final match of Day 4 on centre court was the 4th ever All-Portuguese Tour-level match not on Portuguese soil in the Open Era, the 2nd in this tournament’s history and the first ever meeting between Henrique Rocha and Nuno Borges.
Fresh from his recent biggest career win over world No. 96 Camilo Ugo Carabelli in 1R in Båstad, Henrique Rocha, 20, opened proceedings with a strong game and won the first set 6-1 against his older compatriot Nuno Borges, 27.
In the second set, there were flickers of the Nuno Borges the world got to see when he burst into the scene after beating no.13 Grigor Dimitrov for biggest win of his career to reach 1st grand slam 4R at the 2024 Australian Open. He won the second set 6-4 against Rocha to level the match and force a third set.
Third set started with Borges serving one of the longest games in the match to hold. Rocha, aiming to be the youngest Portuguese man to reach tour-level quarter-final in open era, was outplayed by Borges. He broke serve twice to go up 5-0 and force Rocha to serve to stay in the match. Borges ended up with a bagel and won the set and the match 1-6 6-4 6-0.
Nuno Borges next plays the tournament qualifier and former world No. 1 in juniors Timofey Skatov who earlier beat Tallon Griekspoor to reach his first ATP tour level quarter final.
