The second match on Centre Court in Båstad featured Swedish hopeful Elias Ymer, ranked 264 in the world, taking on American Tristan Boyer, ranked 126. Boyer has previously been ranked as high as No. 106 on the ATP Tour, while Elias has reached a career-high of No. 105.
Elias has proven before that he can perform at a high level. He has reached both quarterfinals and semifinals on the ATP Tour and captured a doubles title in Stockholm alongside his brother Mikael at the Nordic Open – an ATP 250 event. At the 2023 Nordic Open, he reached the quarterfinals before falling to Miomir Kecmanović.
In Båstad, Elias has a solid track record. This marks his twelfth appearance at the tournament, and he has now reached the second round for the fifth time.
His opponent, Boyer, arrived in Båstad in good form, having delivered strong performances at both Grand Slam and ATP Masters 1000 level. He also holds two clay court Challenger titles and is looking to make his mark on the ATP Tour.
Elias started the match strongly, showing consistency from the baseline. Boyer began feeling discomfort as early as the fifth game of the first set and was forced to take a medical timeout. That didn’t stop Elias from closing out the set convincingly, 6–3, dominating with his serve.
The momentum shifted in the second set as Elias became more inconsistent, and Boyer stepped up his level to take the set 6–3. That brought the match to a decisive third set, where Elias regained control and sealed the victory with a commanding 6–2 scoreline.
The win sees Elias Ymer advance to the second round in Båstad for the fifth time in his career. He will next face sixth seed Luciano Darderi of Italy, who defeated Raphael Collignon in three sets in his opening match.
The big question now: can Elias pull off another upset and reach the quarterfinals in Båstad for the first time – a milestone achievement in his career?
