The second match on centrecourt was played between tournament qualifier Denis Yevseyev from Kazakhstan and world number 64 Roberto Carballés Baena from Spain.
The first set started with an early break for Yevseyev who quickly claimed it 6-2. The qualifier was on to another great start in the second but the Spaniard broke back to level 2-2. A lengthy crowd-erupting rally ensued with heartbreak for the Spaniard as he went down another break point. But he quickly followed that up with a cool-headed volley drop shot to win the longest game of the match. After a couple of explosive volley exchanges, Baenas held a crucial serve and soon levelled the match at one set a piece.
The trend of early breaks continued in the third set with the Spaniard breaking twice to go 5-1 up but failed to close the match when serving for it. He eventually did hold and won 2-6 6-3 6-2.
Carbellas Baena now plays the winner of tonight’s Sunset Match at 9pm between tournament’s top seed Andrey Rublev and Argentinian Thiago Agustín Tirante.
