Borges books first ever final with Nadal

Båstad shone in 21° as the second match of Day 6 got underway. The Argentine Thiago Agustin Tirante Argentina faced Nuno Borges of Portugal. 

Borges, playing his first ATP Tour semi-final took the first set convincingly 6-3. 

The young Argentine making his career semi-final debut, he is seeking his 3rd consecutive Top 100 win after defeating Carballés Baena in 3-sets yesterday evening. He aimed to break into the Top 100 and attain a career high ranking of 92 if he won today however the experienced Portuguese broke in the crucial 7th game to take the second set and match 6-3 6-4. 

With this win, Borges is now the first Portuguese finalist in Båstad since Sousa in 2014 (l. to Cuevas)

Nuno Borges now plays one of the most prolific player on clay, Spain’s Rafael Nadal for his first ever ATP Tour win on Sunday.
