With high-level tennis and relentless movement across the court, Camilo Ugo Carabelli advanced to the semifinals of the Nordea Open, overcoming this year’s tournament sensation, Filip Misolic, with a 2-0 sets win (6-3, 7-5). This marks his third career appearance in an ATP Tour semifinal, following Rio de Janeiro and Santiago earlier in February 2025.

The two players started the opening set by exchanging breaks, but it was Ugo Carabelli—who had an 83% first serve percentage and saved a break point while trailing 2-1—who eventually took control. The Argentine improved his strokes, particularly his forehand, and used deep groundstrokes to break for 3-2. Both players held serve until the ninth game, when Ugo Carabelli produced some stellar defense under pressure and secured a crucial break to seal the set 6-3.

Filip Misolic, ranked No. 105 in the world and fresh off a stunning comeback win over 2024 champion Nuno Borges, raised his level in the second set. He broke first, capitalizing on a double fault by Ugo Carabelli to go up 2-1, and nearly grabbed a second consecutive break at 3-1. Although Ugo Carabelli held with difficulty, Misolic continued to apply pressure with frequent backhand slices, disrupting the Argentine’s rhythm and pulling ahead 4-3.

However, the eighth game proved decisive. World No. 59 Ugo Carabelli showed greater consistency (winning 78% of first-serve points compared to Misolic’s 65%) and began hitting with more height and clarity, causing Misolic to commit numerous unforced errors—25 in total, compared to 16 from Ugo Carabelli. That shift helped him break back and swing the momentum to his side.

At 5-4, Ugo Carabelli’s confidence soared as he delivered an ace, a delicate drop shot and a powerful inside forehand to hold serve. Although Misolic responded and even led 40-0 in the following game, Ugo Carabelli’s intense defense brought the game to deuce, even earning a match point which the Austrian managed to save, extending the set.

Still, Ugo Carabelli remained patient and solid in defense, winning 80% of his service games (8/10), compared to 55% (6/11) for Misolic. He ultimately closed out the set—and the match—with another break to take the second set 7-5.

This is Camilo Ugo Carabelli’s second appearance at the Nordea Open and it coincides with a semifinal berth and a presence in the ATP Top 50. In the semifinals in Båstad, he will face Dutchman Jesper De Jong, with both players chasing a spot in the final and the first ATP singles title of their careers.
