Jesper de Jong

The second match of the day on Centre Court featured an exciting clash between Dutchman Jesper De Jong, ranked 106 in the world, and Swedish rising star William Rejchtman Vinciguerra. The 18-year-old from Skåne, who usually competes on the ITF circuit, was granted a valuable wildcard into the main draw – a golden opportunity to test himself against top-tier ATP competition.

Jesper De Jong, a member of the Dutch Davis Cup team that reached the final in 2024, is still chasing his first ATP title. He secured the win with a 6–3, 6–2 scoreline – a result that doesn’t quite reflect the competitive nature of the opening stages, particularly up to 5–3 in the first set.

Rejchtman Vinciguerra showed glimpses of his potential, especially in the fourth game, where he challenged De Jong with several impressive points. The Swede managed to disrupt his opponent’s rhythm at times, but De Jong relied on his experience to close out the set with consistency and precision.

Though best known as a powerful baseliner, De Jong displayed versatility throughout the match – with effective net play and well-placed drop shots highlighting his all-court skills.

For William, this was a significant step forward and a valuable learning experience. The hope is that he will continue his development throughout the year and return even stronger next season, ready to truly challenge for titles.

In the second round, De Jong will face the winner of the match between eighth seed Vit Kopriva (ranked 83) and Bolivian Hugo Dellien (ranked 94). That match is scheduled for tomorrow at 11:00 on Court 1 and is expected to be a tight battle based on ranking.
