What a semifinal day we had in Båstad. In brilliant sunshine and in front of a large crowd, the day began with a thrilling and closely contested battle between Martina Trevisan and Louisa Chirico. It took three tight sets, all equally close and long, to determine a winner, and it was the Italian who emerged victorious.
Trevisan, who brought her dog to Båstad, managed to find a way to win and is now set for Saturday’s final. In the second match, Ann Li faced off against the 2021 winner Nuria Parrizas Diaz, and this match also featured high quality and back-and-forth play. However, the American was slightly more stable and won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Thus, a final awaits between Martina Trevisan and Ann Li, two debutants in the Nordea Open. The doubles semifinals were also played in the summer heat. On court 1, Carle and Riera from Argentina defeated Gleason and Starodubtseva from the USA and Ukraine. They will face Plipuech/Tsao, who won their semifinal against Santamaria/Zarazua.
Meanwhile, the Rafael Nadal fever continues in Båstad, and we can confirm that the Spaniard is not slacking off. He managed two intense training sessions this Friday. First, he sparred against Mariano Navone for a couple of hours on court two, and this evening he sparred with our home hopeful, Leo Borg, on the center court.
Now we look forward to Saturday’s finals. A significant storm is expected according to the forecast, but we await tomorrow.
