After the rain delay, Mirjam Björklund and Emma Navarro were finally able to start when the sun came out in the afternoon here in Båstad. The top-seeded American seemed hungry for revenge after losing the final a few weeks ago in the 100k event in Ilkley, England.
Björklund raised the level considerably after a few games on center court and held a 5-3 lead. Navarro did not give up and equalized at 5-5 after many good duels in the afternoon sun which later led to a tiebreak in the first set. Björklund played with too small margins in the tiebreak, and lost the first set 7-6(2).
Björklund served home the first game in the second set, and broke to a 3-1 lead. A confident Björklund stepped into the court and dictated the game more in the second set, convincingly winning the set 6-1 on the fifth set point.
Navarro got a good advantage in the decisive set with two breaks and 4-0. The American did not give away any easy points, and was stable from the baseline. It was 6-1 in the decisive set and Navarro will face Tamara Zidansek in the quarterfinals.
